The reactions of titanium (III) chloride and vanadium(III) chloride with mixed ligands isatin- azine-IAH₂ and one of the semicarbazone ligands (benzoinsemicarbazone-B'SCH₂ or isatinsemicarba-zone- ISCH₂ or isatinbis (semicarbazone)-IBSCH₃) have been carried out in neutral (or slightly acidic) and in a basic medium.
The resulted complexes have been characterized by metal elemental analysis using precipitation methods, relative molecular weight determination, molar refraction, magnetic susceptibilities, infrared and electronic spectra. Accordingly the above ligands formed positive ionic complexes having the general formula [V(IAH₂)(LHᵧ)Cl]Cl₂ or [Ti(IAH₂)(LHᵧ)]Cl₃ in neutral (or slightly acidic) medium whereas neutral complexes of the general formula [M(IAH₂₋ᵧ')(LHᵧ₋ᵧ')] have been resulted in a basic medium, (where M= Ti⁺³ or V⁺³, y'=1, y''=1 or 2, y= the ligands B'SCH₂ or ISCH₂ or IBSCH₃) in which the ligands acted as neutral or anionic (-1 or -2) in neutral (or slightly acidic) or basic medium, respectively. Hexacoordinated mononuc-lear complexes having an octahedral geometries have been suggested.
