Synthesis of Some Five and Six-membered Fused Heterocycles and Study Their Expected Biological Activity

Abstract

A series of chalcones (1,3-diaryl-2-propen-1-one) (1ₜ-8ₜ) has been prepared via Clasien-Schmidt reaction and condensed with hydrazines, urea and thiourea through Michael-Claisen condensation to afford the corresponding fused heterocycles (9ₜ-16ₜ), their structures were supported in the light of spectral methods (UV, IR, ¹H-NMR). The suggested mechanisms for these reactions were investigated on the basis of theoretical calculations of the heat of formation (H.F.) and the steric energy (S.E.).

Furthermore some of the reactants and the products had been tested for their expected biological activity.
